Ted Sanders is an accomplished executive and renowned animal health innovator. For more than 30 years, he has been leader a in the veterinary pharmaceuticals industry, serving as an executive for many of the world’s most recognized companies in this sector. A rare combination of MBA-trained business leader, scientist, and veterinarian, Ted is uniquely qualified to contribute to boards in a variety of industries.
Ted’s entire career has been dedicated to the research and care of animals in the pharmaceutical industry. He has had responsibility for applying scientific practices and principles to the development of technologies for support and collaboration in the use of animals in drug discovery and development, release testing and product development. In addition to major accomplishments in research and publication, he is also an expert in the implementation and oversight of complex laboratory, animal husbandry, and safety and quality systems. Ted’s knowledge of regulatory frameworks is extensive; he has overseen operations subject to FDA, USDA, AAALAC and EU Directive 2010/63/EU standards. He has successfully led large teams of employees and third-party contractors including clinicians, technicians, scientists, and animal suppliers.
Recognized as a scientist with unique leadership and business acumen, Ted was recruited for roles of increasing responsibility with Schering-Plough, Novartis and Pfizer before ultimately becoming the most senior animal care and use program leader for Zoetis as its Vice President of Veterinary Medicine Research and Development – US Animal Care. In this role, he was responsible for animal care R&D for all of Zoetis’ US sites, as well as animal care for two of its flagship manufacturing facilities. He has also served as Chair of Zoetis’ Global Animal Welfare Board, and led the company’s Global Continuous Improvement Network. In his most recent position, he as responsibility for Animal Care and Compliance at all Zoetis sites globally, including Kalamazoo, MI, Lincoln, NE, Charles City, IA, Campinas, Brazil, Olot Spain and Suzhou, China.
As a recognized leader in the field of veterinary medicine, Ted holds many professional designations and has dedicated himself to many of its most important professional associations. He was district Trustee for the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) and an Exams Committee member of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. He is also a dedicated civic and board leader, currently serving as board chair of the Binder Park Zoo.
