Sandy Pundmann is an accomplished financial and risk executive with nearly 40 years of experience as an innovative, results-focused leader. Often selected for roles that call for breakthrough progress, her career reflects a demonstrated track record of successful leadership and strategic transformation. She has advised the boards and C-suite executives of over one quarter of the Fortune 100 companies and the world’s best-known technology, communications and consumer brands on governance, risk management, transformation and value creation. Sandy is a qualified audit committee financial expert with extensive experience advising boards and audit committees.
Sandy started her career as a technologist, rising through a variety of information technology and finance roles to become a successful C-suite executive with SBC Communications (now AT&T). As the Global Chief Audit Executive, she developed, transformed and led the organization to identify, assess, advise and communicate across the full spectrum of enterprise risks.
At Deloitte, Sandy became a sought-after advisor for companies that face marketplace disruptions and require a rapid maturation of their governance, finance, enterprise risk and business growth capabilities. She is known for her ability to view risk through a shareholder value lens and her market-leading risk management, technology, finance, audit, and corporate governance expertise. As a leader in increasingly important global business and client leadership roles, Sandy led businesses and teams for start-ups to Fortune 10 companies including many of Deloitte’s most important clients. Sandy was recently recognized as one of ten global Internal Audit Thought Leaders in 2020 for her leadership in internal audit innovation, agility and resiliency.
During her tenure at Deloitte, Sandy led at the highest levels of the firm. As the leader for Deloitte’s $210 million internal audit practice (equivalent of a business unit CEO), she drove the go to market growth strategy, had strategic, operational and P&L responsibility, led a team of over 2100 professionals, doubled its size and transformed the business model over a period of five years. She also served as co-chair of the Deloitte Board of Director’s Nominating Committee, led the National Women's Initiative for the development and retention of women professionals, and served on the Deloitte Foundation Board of Directors.
Sandy has played a critical role in Deloitte’s Client Experience program, including leading CEO, board and other executive programs. She has led 150+ C-suite workshops on wide-reaching topics such as executive transition, agile, strategy, transformation, innovation, enterprise risk and corporate governance. Sandy has been one of Deloitte’s most prolific thought-leaders in the areas of governance and risk authoring dozens of articles and seminal whitepapers. She hosted many of the firm’s five-star rated Resilient leadership podcast series.
Sandy is a passionate community and diversity advocate. She created Deloitte’s national leadership development program for high potential women, many of whom have gone on to lead the firm’s most important businesses. Sandy is a member of Erie Neighborhood House board of directors. She previously served on the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team, the Institute of Internal Auditors Board of Governors and various international committees and the University of Missouri – St. Louis Chancellor’s Committee, also serving as a member of the Finance Committee.
Sandy received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems from Missouri State University and her master’s in business administration from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).
