Sandy Pundmann is an accomplished executive with nearly 40 years of experience as an innovative, results-focused leader and financial and risk professional. Often selected for roles that call for breakthrough progress, she has a demonstrated track record of successful leadership and strategic transformation. She has advised Fortune 100 companies – including many of the world’s best-known technology, communications, and consumer brands – on governance, risk management, transformation, and value creation. Sandy is a qualified audit committee financial expert with extensive board and audit committee experience.
Sandy started her career as a technologist, rising through a variety of information technology and finance roles to become a successful C-suite executive with SBC Communications (now AT&T; NYSE: T). As the Global Chief Audit Executive, she developed, transformed, and led the organization charged with oversight and assessment of the company’s full spectrum of enterprise risks.
As a senior partner at Deloitte, Sandy became a sought-after advisor for CEOs and boards of companies facing marketplace disruptions that required rapid maturation of their governance, finance, enterprise risk, and business growth capabilities. Sandy was one of the firm’s most impactful pioneers in enterprise risk management, building a market-leading practice that is consistently ranked first by industry analysts. As the lead partner for several of the firm’s most important global relationships, Sandy led project teams serving start-ups to Fortune 10 companies.
Sandy has led at the highest levels of Deloitte’s global firm. As the chief executive of the firm’s internal audit business, Sandy was accountable for the strategy, operations, and P&L of the 2,100+ person unit. She developed and implemented an innovative, strategic business transformation that doubled its revenues in under five years. Sandy was also a national industry leader, governance and risk practice leader, co-chair of the Deloitte Board Nominating Committee, and member of the Deloitte Foundation Board of Directors, and also served on the firm’s global internal audit executive committee.
Sandy played a critical role in Deloitte’s Client Experience program, leading 150+ CEO, Board and C-suite executive workshops on executive transition, agile leadership, strategy, transformation, innovation, risk, and governance. Sandy has been one of Deloitte’s most prolific thought-leaders in the areas of governance and risk, authoring dozens of articles and seminal whitepapers, and producing/hosting the firm’s five-star rated Resilient podcast series. Among many other recognitions, Sandy was named to the IIA’s Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners, the profession’s highest honor, and the Top 10 Internal Audit Thought Leader in 2020.
Sandy created and led one of Deloitte’s most successful development programs for high potential women, many of whom have gone on to lead the firm’s most important businesses. Sandy is a member of Erie Neighborhood House board of directors and previously served on the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team, the Institute of Internal Auditors Board of Governors (and various international committees), and the University of Missouri – St. Louis Chancellor’s Committee where she also served as a member of the Finance Committee.
Sandy has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems from Missouri State University and an MBA from the University of Missouri. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).
