Ed Hida, retired Senior Partner at Deloitte and CEO of Hida Advisory LLC, is among the most preeminent risk and regulatory experts in the financial services industry. He has worked with global, national and regional banks, insurers, asset managers, and financial infrastructure and specialized finance companies. Ed is a trusted, strategic advisor to the c-suite and boards of many of the world’s largest and most recognizable brands in the financial services industry, helping them to balance regulatory and risk management mandates with strategic execution and value creation. He is a qualified financial and risk management expert.
Ed has spent more than thirty years leading risk and regulatory practices and large-scale client projects for many of the firm’s most important clients, including serving 7 of the 10 largest global banks. Ed led his clients through the most significant disruption to the banking industry of the modern era during and after the 2008 financial crisis, including the execution of regulatory remediation, enterprise risk management program development, CCAR and DFAST stress testing program design and implementation, and bank charter conversions. Ed has also helped clients address non-financial risks like conduct risk and third-party risk as well as challenges such as risk data management.
Ed has advised major financial institutions on multibillion-dollar M&A transactions by conducting asset quality, infrastructure, risk management and regulatory due diligence. He also served as the lead capital markets partner for large domestic and global banking audit clients, executing the assessment of risk management programs and reporting to the SEC and CFTC. Given the strategic and high-stakes nature of his work, Ed often reports directly to the board of directors or bank regulatory bodies (including the Federal Reserve, OCC and FDIC among others).
Throughout his tenure at Deloitte, Ed has taken leadership roles of increasing visibility and importance. As the most senior partner in the financial services risk and regulatory practice during and after the financial crisis, he was responsible for the strategic direction, operations and P&L performance of the $100M+ risk and capital management practice of Deloitte’s Risk Advisory business. He was hand-selected by Deloitte leadership to create an overall practice for Asian-based banks operating in the U.S., significantly improving Deloitte’s brand and generating over $50M in incremental revenues.
Active in his profession, Ed served as an advisory board member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals, and on the Blue Ribbon Panel of The Professional Risk Managers’ International Association. He is a prolific writer and speaker who is often sought out for interviews both in the U.S. and internationally. He has been featured or quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Nikkei, Time Magazine, Bloomberg TV, Sky Business TV and Yahoo Finance TV. Ed has spoken at numerous Deloitte and industry conferences on risk management issues.
Ed received his Master of Science in Management, Accounting and his Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance, from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of New York. He is passionate about the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin football, and is an avid traveler and semi-professional photographer. He is a member of the Japanese American Citizens League.
